Libertine Lyrics from Peter Pauper Press, 1941
Description
Libertine Lyrics from Peter Pauper Press, 1941Limited edition of 1,750 & published in 1941, Libertine Lyrics is a collection of ribald versed from the 17th & 18th centuries by such figures as Lord Rochester with cheeky, marginal illustrations in red by Anthony Amour. This is almost certainly a pseudonym but unfortunately I couldnt find anything more about him! Good condition overall with some wear to the slip case & surface wear to the covers.
This particular image is especially associated with Orthodox Christianity
No illustrations or die cuts in this one
very convincing
while the red velvet is balding & stained from age in some places
large and silver plated
particularly at the corners
She took the name Marie-Léonie after she became a nun
Unfortunately it came to me without notes or attributions
Monarch Books
The flowers are made of cloth- kits were available for women to assemble them at home as a popular craft
but this is not the first time I’ve seen a 6-legged spider in antiques from this era
including the weeping willow
